Vanishing New Years Momentum? It’s your choice: make 2012 a year long everyday celebration.

We’ve been waiting for it… I’ve been waiting over 15 years as a part of the new age community.

What’s going to happen?

Who really knows. But likely a lovely shift in consciousness — which is like the biggest party in centuries, wouldn’t you say?

Let’s kick it off right — not just seeing a couple weeks in January as a reason to transform and make changes, but the whole year as a seed thought to nurture the rest of our lives by.

With all the many important, and sometimes challenging, resolutions lingering in the air (changing diets, quitting old habits, organizing, earlier morning meditations…), it’s no wonder January has been claimed as “Celebration of Life Month.” But how to keep the whole year spiced up and moving in the flow like the great momentum we seek to launch the grand year with?

Make 2012 an everyday celebration

Make 2012 an everyday celebration

Consider making an ordinary day celebrations. We are accustomed to throwing parties for special events, and dinners for birthdays and holidays. What if on not-regular-average-days with planned a party for ourselves and loved ones “just because” – to celebrate life? Celebrate a Wednesday, the beginning of summer, an Oscars party in March, or a Harvest party at the end of August. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy, just great natural food with perhaps a bit of music and inner merriment.

Start every day with a blessing journal. Count ‘em. Count them with love. This is the year to get this habit down! Really activate that gratitude throughout the year and tap into the ultimate feeling of unending abundance and joy. Keep it by your bed so you can jot a least one thing down either first thing in the morning or before entering dreamland at night. If you want to get fancy, make 3-5 things and decorate it with energy swirlies and hearts.

This time of year with all the many possibilities of resolution choices, try and remember life doesn’t always have to be about the challenge and hard work or being perfect. Let’s remember it involves being your best with the many personal responsibilities and room for onward and upward improvement, but is also a celebration. Each day when we rise, we can choose to celebrate the gratitude of a new day – the next 24 hours can be a mini celebration of life.

How do you want to celebrate yours?

Let’s rock out this year, whatever happens… Party on, gorgeous.

You, Bright Star: Being the Fire of Your Own Life

When I was about five years old, I had the role of the *Star* in the Christmas Eve nativity service at church. I enjoyed being the star since I didn’t have to say any lines. I got to keep my inner depth (and shyness) inside.

All I had to do was shine and sparkle.

Lu as the star

Lu, age 5, as the star

I simply loved feeling beautiful wearing white with a ring of silver garland on my head that sparkled like a crown of diamonds as I floated like an angel through the lights.

(You should have seen my just-beyond-toddler-divinely-graceful-gait – yeah, a real showstopper.)

It felt safe to be my introverted child-self, speaking through my eyes and heart, and maintaining the still and magical role of a divine guiding light.

My role wasn’t just being passive while shining; I intrinsically knew it was the lead role of the star to help those wise guys find little baby Jesus, and honor him with divine gifts — it would go onto create a lovely story in history about following the bright star, the inner light of our hearts that guide our way to discover our life purpose of our highest, shining self.

It wasn’t just about intuition and fulfilling a life purpose. It was a lot more, almost beyond things I can write about today. Things of the spirit realm that I have embraced the fleeting fragrance of. Things of the cosmic void, the creation, and the vast Oneness of all Source.

While appreciating in awe and wonderment from our earthly stance, a star can somehow give us a whiff of that almighty divine omnipresent and timeless Light.

bright starYes, stars are quiet, as they shine their brilliant ancient fire wisdom, for those who are graced to witness their seemingly pinpointed and focused magnificence.

Starlight and fire is that which gives us light and life. It’s the holy fire that gave us all birth into this life, our spark into existence.

The light, or fire, that creates the stars, our suns and star systems, is infused with a divine spark – as is the star within you has the power to light up others creating a galaxy of enlightenment, or spreading other energy like wildfire.

Fire fuels our passions and warms our homes. It creates and also destroys. Fire is the element that can only take place by consuming, so naturally fire is the transformer; the ultimate alchemist constantly evolving and shape-shifting.

From that fire there is warm radiance that reaches to our best selves and others. Our fire is a metaphor for a trust in life’s journey to live from the golden thread of potential running through our unique life purpose. The power to transform our days and ways into positive scintillations of light.

You have the power to continually evolve as your life progresses.

It is post Winter solstice and have now begun the return of the light, let us be the transformational beings that we were meant to be. May we burn up the old karma that serves us not more.

As we prepare to enter the year 2012, may we rev up our inner fires of passion for life, and a zeal for all that we are meant to be.

May your days be merry and bright. May you find magic throughout your life!

In warm radiant light and love for you: beautiful kindred spirit,
Lu

Sensual Self-Love Diet: How to Feed the Deeper Desire Instead of Going for Food {Part 2 of 3}

{This is part 2 in a 3-part series on your self-love diet, feeding the deeper desire instead of going for food. Did you miss the one before this where we define differences and identify emotional eating? Catch that here.}

Cultivating Pleasure Visualization

Let’s do a little exercise.

Creating pleasure without food

We're going to create pleasure without the extra food

I’m going to tease you and your mind with images of food indulges.

I want you to get into the sensation of the pleasure, even if momentary. This is about identifying the good sensations the food you crave brings to you. That’s the point of this exercise.

I ask that you just FEEL, and not eat anything out of urgency that you crave. Please. Treats are defined differently for each of us. I will ask you go through a couple of moments as if you are indulging in your favorite treat, whether sweet or salty, but rather than eat it, just feel it.

Think of this as a reading visualization. While you take in the following words, allow your consciousness settle lower in your body, going into a deeper place of feeling.

Start now by slowing your breath. Center your self where you are sitting (if you’re not sitting, please do now.) Feel a calm energy. Even go grab a cuppa tea (or slowly sip the one you got) if that helps bring in subtle awareness.

Awareness Eating Meditation

It’s the end of the day and it’s time for a little relaxation.

One of your favorite things to do is curl up on the sofa with your favorite blanket and watch a movie. Or even allow the mind to go unconscious and watch a silly show. You deserve it, right? You also enjoy a little organic dark chocolate. Maybe even with caramel and sea salt. Mmmm… can you smell it?

{Before you dash off and check your stash, please stay with me on this.}

Adding the chocolate to our moments with ourselves is another way to get momentary bliss. But it’s so fleeting; you know this, don’t you darling? Your lips touch the deep earthy sweetness and you want more. It feels so good to have the sweet and chewy sensation melting in your mouth and sliding down your throat.

Ahhhh…. Come on, I want you to get into this with me.  ;)

{Can you do it now if you didn’t above?}

Take a few moments and cultivate the feeling you have when you are indulging in the goodness, or the feeling you are looking for.

What is it that you’re really tapping into when you sink your teeth into that pumpkin bar? Those salty flavor-intense sprinkled chips?

Try and make it not so much about the specific food, but about the pleasure you gain from eating. Allow yourself to fully experience the imagined moment of pleasure. Be in that moment and feel it in your body.

Feel it where you want to.

Hold yourself in this space for the next few moments and notice the pleasure you can allow yourself to FEEL.

How much can you receive?

This is YOUR moment. Energetically infuse yourself with it. It’s not about the food, but the feelings of goodness you can allow yourself to receive.

Can you gain that without the food? Can you receive it?

If you can get in touch with your pleasure, without putting food to your lips, you can conquer the majority of emotional eating, and transform in a new way. It is the pleasure, the love, you are craving. The food momentarily satiates the longer need, but is never lasting.

When you find the desire to eat without physical hunger or awareness, tap into this source of being able to feel your deeper craving for true self-love.

Stay with me,  we’ll journey even deeper, beyond earthly pleasures of nourishment. You will learn how to nourish our souls and inner beings way beyond your wildest foodie dreams!

Sensual Self-Love Diet: How to Feed the Deeper Desire Instead of Going for Food {Part 1 of 3}

Eating is a sensual delight, almost a cause for celebration.

Some refer to eating as a reason to be alive: “Living to Eat” (rather than eating to live.)

As sensual beings in human form; it is our innate longing to be in a state of contentedness

"...as sensual beings in human form; it is our innate longing to be in a state of contentedness."

It’s no wonder as sensual beings in human form; it is our innate longing to be in a state of contentedness. Dwelling in these bodies, we also have a strong physical desire to seek pleasure. We were put on this planet to live our most full self. So, if there are any nuances of lack, often these come out in wanting to satiate the desire but putting food to the lips, and the pleasures that come forth around that moment.

But what if you’re experiencing a ravishing urgency to eat, and it’s perhaps not to satiate the needed sustenance to keep your physical body going… What if during your favorite movie you find yourself going for a little treat — perhaps some organic dark chocolate? A little Tahitian vanilla gelato? {And I’m not trying to tease you; please resist heading for the fridge.} After you eat your treat, you feel a sense of momentary gratification, but it fades quickly. Bits of guilt seep in, whether you are aware of it or not. It’s often an unconscious thing.

I want to bring awareness to our eating. Let’s start by defining the difference between eating to soothe unconscious emotions and physical hunger.

How to tell if you’re emotionally eating:

  • Emotional hunger appears out-of-the-blue and comes on like an unexpected breeze. Physical hunger occurs gradually. Often you can hear your tummy talking to you, or other physical sensations.
  • Hunger coming from a need or feeling place wants to be satisfied instantly. “Give it to me now.” Physical hunger can wait.
  • Usually you have a very specific craving, like chocolate or chips, and just that food will meet your need. When you’re eating for physical hunger, there are a myriad of things you could eat. You feel much more options oriented.
  • You’ll fill up, but want to keep eating. When you eat for physical hunger, you’ll likely stop when your body’s had enough.
  • Emotional eating often leaves feelings of guilt. Boooo to that.

Any of this familiar?

When our tummies are not growling, we are feeding something else, other than our tummies.

When I learned of my dairy (casein) and egg allergy, after already being gluten-free, I also needed to cut sugars out completely to heal from Candida, I discovered that I wasn’t totally over my emotional eating. Even though I wasn’t eating excessive treats or standing at the counter eating chips in a rash, quick manner and not even quite noticing I was doing such a thing, I realized how connected I was to my food and even more so — attached to having certain things. My eggs topped with nutritional yeast and thinly sliced melted brie — mmmm… No more.

So what to do with the urge to eat from emotions?

Woman eating from a happy conscious place

Feed the Deeper Desire instead of Going for Food

1. Bring in Awareness

If we can start by recognizing we are doing our eating from an area of mindfulness, we’ve got most of the rest made. You can print out the list from above to help differentiate, if that helps. Keep it on you, and around your food supply. Refer to it before anything touches your lips.

This is no easy feat as we’ve created habitual behavior over the years. Over time, I’ve endearingly labeled the habit “neurotic eating”, with a quick passing chuckle, giving myself permission to indulge without stopping. No very endearing. I was not only telling my body I thought poorly of my act, but I was allowing myself, in a rebellious way, to gourd out simultaneously brushing it off. We have to find awareness of the more defiant parts of ourselves. Mine is the inner 14-year old teenager, expressing she couldn’t give a rat’s ass either way. “Excuse me while I eat. Back off.”

Once you’ve identified the differences between emotional eating and eating to sustain your body, you’ll be able to speak to the part of you that is ready to insert the tiramisu fingers.

2. Continue with Deeper Awareness and Ongoing Loving Maintenance

  • Learn about what triggers you. Make a laundry list of your greatest food temptations. Draw swirly-dos around them if you want. Bring it with you so you can refer to what foods seduce you.
  • Do something else. Stand up and do some booty shimmying. Spin around. Hug yourself. Go make love. Make art. Meditate and offer the craving up to Spirit. If being productive works for you, make a list in advance, too. Refer to it religiously.

If being productive doesn’t work for you? Or you’re in the middle of your movie and this comes up? Refer to Part 2 of the Sensual Self-Love Diet: How to Feed the Deeper Desire instead of Going for Food, which will give you love bits to ease your moment and get you in touch with your ability to create pleasure. {COMING SOON.}

Not an all-or-nothing type? Part 3 will be my alternatives, tasty food nibbles you can put in your mouth as you work through this process. Think: favorite teas. Healthy things to suck on.

There we’ll have ways to help you tune into your needs and cultivate the feeling of pleasure that is not food. Can’t wait for you to get those.

In the meantime, PLEASE… be so gentle and kind with yourself. I know you’ve heard that before, but I need you to hear that with my most empathetical, nourishing, motherly-sage voice.

The cycle of eating to satiate our feelings, and then the guilt of having a meaningless fling with our food, is tiring on a spirit and self-worth.

You are a child of the divine oneness. You are whole, one and full.

{Can you say it? Let’s do it together.}

“I am a child of the Universe. I am full.”

Say it three times. Tweak the wording for what resonates with you the most.

“I am a child of God. I am whole I have everything I need.”

“I am connected to everything. I am love. I am loved immensely.”

Much love in your conscious eating.  I believe in you. Remember what you are craving is the fulfillment of receiving sweetness.

Today’s self-love action:

Take a few moments and right down what you can do to bring yourself sweetness. {That is NOT food.} Keep it near by and read it, honor it, when you want to go for that sweet sultry treat.

If you’re inspired, please share some of that in the comments to inspire readers.

Noticing our Neighbors: Bringing Connection of Community Into Light

Bobbing for apples

The kids were bobbing for apples at one of the stops

Yesterday for Halloween, the neighborhood of ranches along my highway reignited an old tradition for the “Trick-or-Treat-Challenged” — collecting candy along scenic route 1. But it wasn’t about the hoarding of the Halloween gluttony — it was more like a family event, each home welcoming as a safe stop with open arms.

My boys and I were happy to be invited and come along for our first year of the new tradition.

As I’m still fairly new to the area, a lot of the ranches and the people who live at them have been a bit of a mystery to me. Needless to say I was curious and fascinated that I was being welcomed to come on to the property and meet a large area of the land all around where I’ve lived for the past five years, previously veiled.

The land here is sprinkled with private cattle ranches and old country homes. In the midst is a jewel of it’s own kind of calling: the intentional spiritual community where I live.

Many of the dwellings are home to children grown and children young (including mine) who attend the adorable public country school down the road. All of the homes have the beautiful connecting land of the pristine California central coast as the blanket and heart we all call home. As homes are far and few, stretched out with often miles in between, we caravaned in our individual rigs doing our best to stick together in a costumed army of country community in cars.

As we arrived at each station, my kids walked forth in wonder to meet unknown neighbors offering goodies and spooky joy, their homes or barns, and their little Halloween set-ups. It was heart-warming to see the care an love each of the 10 or so homes along the way put into the little event.

Roasting Marshmellows

Swinging by to roast marshmallows under the crescent moon

From one end of our stretch of highway 1 to the other, we shared adventures of the mysterious ranch lands: traveled amidst haunted barns decorated with bones garland and floating apples, escaped pirates and outlaws while gathering treasures in bags, roasted marshmallows beneath the grinning moon, and arrived by hayride safari to the Bratcher’s barn.

Along the great adventure, many of the homes were dark as we walked up, adults dressed in unrecognizable costume, and kids screaming with glee and running about with chaotic enthusiasm.

I let go of the idea of trying to introduce myself and the small talk that follows…
“Hi, I’m Lu. Yes I live over at the spiritual community. Nope, we don’t drink Kool-Aid, nor run naked under the full moon. We actually work and pay taxes. You’d probably relate to our simple devotional practice based on meditating together to support the sacred habit. We also teach meditation and yoga, and make incredible wholesome meals for Sunday brunch. Yeah, we know good food…”

I was feeling a little introverted in the afternoon that day and I was finding it interesting to be anonymous and observe the scenes play out before me, hiding under my purple feathery hat.  The feeling of camaraderie was very much like we share in my spiritual community among the other ranches, and in a familiar way, I felt right at home. Whether I met everyone, people identified me as neighbor to what ranch, the point was we were in it for the kids. For tradition and for fun.

Crescent moon and barn

One under the same sky, same crescent moon

Happy to “meet” with my new found neighbors in this unifying event of Halloween. Whether they knew I existed in the shadows, or not. I was able to connect with them, regardless of the many potential different views or beliefs. We are all family.

I quickly became aware of my ease in seeing the world as one as far as a humanity sense, and connecting to my inner spiritual community more intimately, but I hadn’t been aware of the beauty in the nearby obvious community of my country neighborhood.

In the shadows and around the flickering fires, we are all connected in our oneness.

Look to the Stars: Having Courage in the Face of the Unknown

Chosing to live in fear or loveWe know it’s a choice to live in fear, or in love.

Heaven or hell in any moment, right?

I think heaven is the preferred choice. Utilizing our inner empowerment from the divine facet called Courage {also the virtue associated with the astrological sign of Scorpio}, can assist us in calling that heaven in when we chose it in our moments.

When we choose to bring courage into our lives, something inside of us wants to bloom: it requires cultivation by us; harmonizing with the energy from the universe and a personal inner motivating urgency that wants to live and grow.

We expend effort to co-create our potential — in this, we allow for surrendering and we stay open to receive the grace of Spirit.

We can trust an innate inner passion for our soul evolution that wants us to live and grow.

Any power that fear, the negative virtue of courage, can have over us comes from the belief that we have no alternative.  The instant we see a new path, we feel lovingly powerful and joyous. To find a powerful place to stand is to let go of fear.

Surrendering, we can say:

“I am not sure of what is going to happen, and that’s okay.”

Stars

Twinkle, twinkle, little star, how I wonder what you are…

A soul sister and I together were walking once in the sacred Hopi labyrinth that is one the land I live. Standing in the center, she pointed out before our vision a beautiful metaphor of the “unknown.” As the day was moving on, sparkling stars were beginning to immerse from the blanket of  twilight.

While face turn upward, she said: “We begin to see the stars coming out—at first they are hard to see, but as it gets darker, we can see them more clearly, just like the unknown things in life become more clear to us.”

With some courage, those unknowns of our lives light up; stars revealed, becoming beautiful shimmering lights that have perfect deliberate place in the indigo-sky realm of life, once perceived as darkness.

Letting go, offering it up to God’s loving hands and know fear doesn’t remedy or clarify the future. Instead, having courage can bring peaceful answers as you stand bravely beyond the twilight.

Cultivate Courage:

  1. Ask for clarity in the NOW and take your steps along your perfect path with loving courage as the initiator.
  2. Continue to seek the unknown with your heart—embracing it like the loving hands of our universe —and courage will be yours as you have the divine on your side.

Some of my favorite bringing-courage-to-the-unknown quotes:

“The stars don’t just come out at night; they’ve always been there.”  ~Unknown

“The Lord is my Light and Salvation—whom shall I fear?”   ~Psalms 27:1

“How did the rose open its heart and give to this world all its beauty? It felt the encouragement of light against its being. Otherwise, we all remain too frightened.”  –from the poem: “It Felt Love” by Hafiz

What is a time where you empowered yourself to bring more courage, out of thin air, into your situation? Share a little story in the comment area below.

Scorpio: Spiritual Alchemy, Inner Depth and Taming Revenge

Alchemist Goddess

We’ve slid into the deep vibe of Scorpio.

Can you feel the fullness? Can you feel the magnitude of this expansive slice in time?

Scorpio is all about alchemy, rolling up the light and dark into a ball of energy and understanding its face value and still standing strong. Yes, it’s about intensity, passion and regeneration, and is full of very powerful spiritual energy. Scorpio rules transformation. There’s deep insight, intuition, and sincerity there, too.

Feel it.

I happen to have a couple planets of Scorpio in my chart and my moon and ascending is also in Scorpio. I’m feeling it quite well.

My sun sign is Libra so you don’t always get all the glorious intensity – you get to see my cordial lightness, too. But if you’re lucky, you’ll get a little slice of the depth, too. In this, my life has been all about transformation, and being the alchemist of my own life.

There is a tendency to either choose the path of the victim and plummet into despair, or rise up like the ascending eagle and stand in its place of personal empowerment. I’m working in an on-going fashion to be aware of, and to choose the latter.

That is what Scorpio can take on. Scorpio gets the darkness, knows it’s not “bad”, but something that needs to be transmuted into another vibration to keep the energy flowing. Scorpio can work with all the many energies and spin them into gold, whatever it decides gold wants to look like.

Scorpio Sexy.

Scorpio also has a reputation for being sexy. If this is the case, it’s a far cry from being casual meaningless sex, if it chooses to partake in the sensual carnal pleasures; it’s by way of navigating higher realms of consciousness, deeper realms of ecstasy, and new awareness of the soul. Why?

  • It imbues all life and acts with sacred depth.
  • Nothing is taken without an underlying element of deeper sincerity.

So what’s with the bad rep, then?

To help you understand where the bad rep comes from (and knowing personally) it’s only a misconceived notion where many have generalized from a specific experience. That experience is in the actuality that Scorpio has three energetic vibrations or areas of its ascending spiritual evolution.

  1. The lowest is the ground-habituating scuttling Scorpion, ready with the fatal sting.
  2. Next up on the totem pole is the soaring eagle, the evolving sage Scorpio who’s learned her life lessons and keenly notices everything with laser insight and psychic-like intuition.
  3. The highest evolved manifestation is the glorious phoenix, the mythical bird that rises from the ashes of death and to create new life and rebirth.

Phoenix TransmutationScuttling scorpion transformed into soaring phoenix overnight… are you noticing the alchemy here?

Taming the desire to get revenge

We can choose to access any one of these energies. That includes the desire to get revenge, and sting back. Revenge should never be done in a hateful way. The most proactive form of payback is done proactively where you are successful in while using virtue. Do it with your own inner work. Release and cut out the external negative energies. Don’t push your own emotions onto someone else.

Transmute in meditation. Transmute and repeat.

Be the alchemist and empower your state of mind.

A little seed thought: is it any wonder Halloween, the harbinger of fear and inner demons was picked during this time? The very next morning with the golden light of the sun, comes All Saints Day.

Scorpio as a life symbol of transformation is death and rebirth. The sacred cycle that is unending.

Let it go. Move on.

Fill your life with the radiance that is your birthright.

Your empowered self is here to live the life you intended for you.

Spruce up your Coffee: Dairy-Free Sugar-Free style

What to put in your coffee for a little exotic creamy sweet goodness?

Spruce up your coffee with buddhaI have been trying several protein powders that don’t contain casein or egg whites, hence the variety below. Most work well, so you can choose one a substitute powders with your preference and mix up the other ingredient varieties. Each of the suggest blending in the blender if possible. I usually make my morning smoothie, and then conveniently use the blender to mix up my creamer concoction.

Each of these uses grade B organic maple syrup as this is my preferred sugar-free sweetener. You can play with xylitol or stevia substitutes as well.

Enjoy my little experiments, and joyfully glean whatever suits you.

Vanilla Almond Joe

  • Designer Whey Vanilla-Almond protein powder (casien-free)
  • Maple syrup, splosh to taste
  • Almond Milk, unsweetened vanilla

Blend above ingredients in blender, preferably. Spoon stirring works okay if you don’t have time to blender it. Add to fave brewed coffee (or flavor of your choice.)

Kaffee Autumn Gold

  • Chocolate SPIRU-TEIN® Gold Shake powder
  • Maple syrup, splosh to taste
  • Almond Milk, unsweetened vanilla
  • Pumpkin spice, dash!

Blend above ingredients in blender, preferably. Add to Vanilla biscotti flavored coffee (or flavor of your choice.)

Earthy* Mocha

  • Unsweetened organic cocoa powder, 1 Tblsp. or to taste
  • Maple syrup, splosh to taste
  • Almond Milk, unsweetened vanilla
    {you can add a splosh of coconut milk for richer cream}

Blend above ingredients in blender, preferably. Add to Vanilla or Chocolate flavored coffee (or coffee of your choice.)

*I call this one earthy because the unsweetened cocoa powder has a depth that we’re used to having covered up by a lot of added sugar in chocolate. The maple syrup keeps it’s earthy lush essence.

I’ve enjoyed using straight coconut milk, out of the can — it gives the joe a luxurious silky essence. Pour your coconut milk into a glass jar with lid, refrigerate, and use within 5 days or so.

Coconut Joe Bliss

  • Coconut milk, a happy glug
  • Maple syrup, splosh to taste
  • Almond Milk, unsweetened vanilla

Blend above ingredients in blender, preferably. Add to Vanilla Biscotti flavored coffee (I’ve been enjoying my Keurig K-cup version of this, or flavor of your choice.

Choco-Coco Bliss

  • Coconut milk, a happy glug
  • Unsweetened organic cocoa powder, 1 Tblsp. or to taste
  • Maple syrup, splosh to taste
  • Almond Milk, unsweetened vanilla
  • Pumpkin spice, dash

Blend above ingredients in blender, preferably. Add to fave brewed coffee (or flavor of your choice).

Losing the foods you Love: The Five Stages of Grief

Five Stages of Grief

Finding out about your food allergies can be emotionally devastating.

It’s natural and common to go through the stages of grief before accepting the loss of the foods you once loved and thought you were nourished by. You mourn the loss of your favorite food.

The five stages of grief with relevance to giving up food are:

1. Denial: “I feel fine. I can eat this. It won’t upset my body too much.”

2. Anger: “Why do I have to deal with this? My husband doesn’t have to be bothered with this!”

3. Bargaining: “I will give up the sugar if I can just have agave…”

4. Depression: “What’s the point? I might as well starve.”

5. Acceptance: “It’s going to be OK. There are other things I can eat.”

Losing the foods you Love: The Five Stages of GriefDoes it have to be such a big deal? I mean, it’s just food, right? But it’s more than that. It’s our sustenance. When we have a fridge full of fancy cheese and creamers that stare back at me. (I have three fancy naturally flavored creamers for the coffee of my new little mini Keurig in my fridge right now — sugar and casein).

Even if we’re not unconsciously stuffing our faces with emotionally eating, food can serve as a little luxury. Like slowly sipping my coffee (dairy-sugar tainted) with pumpkin pie specialty seasonal creamer. That’s one little moment worth looking forward to in the mornings.

Food allergies aren’t something that we can just do for awhile. It’s permanent and we didn’t choose it.  The allergies chose us.

Are you mourning the loss of food? Is it the tradition of putting creamer in your coffee? Is it a habit of reaching for the butter for your sprouted toast?

If you can keep your heart open, you can have amazing breakthroughs in experiencing a new way of life — while your body begins to heal and regenerate itself. Just imagine all the many ways your body will thank you when it can stop putting all the many antibodies on the front line to defend, every time you have wheat, or eggs, or potatoes, or whatever it is, that isn’t made for you.

Get creative with your new and body-welcoming foods.

I’m devoting a section on this website to my ongoing experiments in my new “-free” diet.

Please share your favorites, or any new revelations you may have, in the comments below!
